Overview

History of Homeopathic Medical Schools in the United States: The United States has a rich tradition of homeopathic medicine. At the turn of the 19th century, 1/5 physicians in the United States were homeopathic physician. There existed 23 homeopathic full time medical schools, along with many homeopathic hospitals and nursing homes. The last of these homeopathic medical schools closed their doors by approximately 1930.

The AMCH Doctor of Homeopathy Program represents the first full time Homeopathic medical school in the United States since that time.

History of Full Time Programs Around the World

There exist many homeopathic medical schools around the world. India alone contains nearly 250. These medical schools can be found in South America, Mexico, Europe, South Africa and Pakistan. Where homeopathic medical schools have existed, homeopathic medicine has tended to grow at a faster rate than in other areas. AMCH is working to partner and collaborate with other similar homeopathic institutions from around the world. More details.

AMCH History

The American Medical College of Homeopathy (AMCH) was established in Phoenix Arizona in 1999. Originally named the Desert Institute School of Classical Homeopathy, it changed its name to the American Medical College of Homeopathy in 2006. AMCH achieved licensure status through the Arizona Private Postsecondary Board of Education in 2000 for its certificate and distance learning programs and full accreditation from the Council for Homeopathic Education (not an accrediting agency recognized by the US Department of Education) in 2005.

AMCH embarked on the project of creating a homeopathic medical school in 2005. This began with a national homeopathic educational conference. See the AMCH time-line for more details.
